Exciting Opportunity at MSK: We are seeking a Supervisor for Cellular Immunology in our Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Department.
The supervisor is responsible to plan, organize and supervise the day to day work of laboratory personnel engaged in performing routine and specialized technical procedures, including planning laboratory work, evaluating work performed and handling procedural and technical laboratory problems to meet the needs of the clinical staff and patients. The supervisor monitors Quality Control, Quality Assurance, Safety and Inspection Control practices to assure compliance with internal and external regulations. The supervisor is also responsible for smooth workflow, and demonstrates decision-making abilities in all aspects of performance in support of the Department.
Role Overview:
- Supervises area operations, prioritizes workflow, and assigns staff to meet the need of the laboratory and ensure efficient and quality operations.
- Supervises the technical staff engaged in performing routine and specialized testing in a timely fashion.
- Regularly reviews workflow, updates process flows and makes recommendations to improve area work flow as per the needs of the department.
- Prepares work schedules and assigns work to subordinate employees, ensuring adequate coverage at all times; ensures that routine activities are fairly delegated.
- Rearranges work load to give priority to emergency/special requests; prioritizes work when LIS is down and when short staffing occurs; may perform duties of subordinate employees on an as-needed basis.
- Conveys necessary information such as incomplete work, unresolved problems, etc, to ensure smooth transition between shifts.
- Provides guidance to staff to ensure that problems are resolved and work assignments are completed within established time frames. Intercedes to resolve problems. Reports problems to manager when necessary.
- Prepares annual performance appraisals, goal setting, and mid-year check-ins with assigned direct reports.
- Intercedes on high-level complaints, as needed, and monitors their resolution to prevent future occurrences.
Key Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred
- 6+ years of proven experience required, including at least 4 years in flow cytometry
- NYS Clinical Laboratory Technologist License required
- ASCP preferred
